| In Fall 2007, the Georgia Department of Transportation initiated the Southwest Georgia Interstate Study to identify all roadway capacity and operational needs to improve Southwest Georgia’s access to I-185, I-75 and I-10. The study includes Baker, Brooks, Calhoun, Chattahoochee, Clay, Colquitt, Cook, Crisp, Decatur, Dooly, Dougherty, Early, Grady, Lee, Lowndes, Macon, Marion, Miller, Mitchell, Muscogee, Quitman, Randolph, Schley, Seminole, Stewart, Sumter, Terrell, Thomas, Tift, Turner, Webster, and Worth Counties.
To date, existing conditions related to current capacity and safety needs, environmental constraints, local development plans, economic development trends, and community benefits have been evaluated. Development of a “regional travel model” that estimates future year travel conditions is currently underway.
Public Meetings:
Two rounds of public meetings have been held
throughout the study area in the spring and fall of
2008. The locations for the meetings are identified in
the map below. The presentations for the meetings are
available under Whats New. The next round of meetings
will be held in the first quarter of 2009.
